Boys Birthday Trip: Last Day

Oh good lord, we're still in St. Louis. I have so much more to share,so let's wrap this trip up. Our last day had two stops: the coolest museum in the world and a second go-round with that restaurant.

First, the museum. It's hard to describe this museum, honestly. I loved it because I have a tendency to want to hold on to old containers and art supplies because I think I may in the future use those in a recycling effort. I never do, which is why I just recycled three empty painters tape dispensers. I never did anything with those despite holding on to them since our June 2011 move date. So this museum to me was like someone climbed into my mind, got the ideas and then actually followed through! It was amazing. Read about the City Museum here-the idea is basically that it's a play/wonderland crafted from reclaimed materials. Most materials came from older buildings in the city. Awesome, awesome.

Here are some pics, with few words.

The fence was a dragon! A sure sign that neat things are to come.
And here is the museum, this whole building. Note the bus that looks like it might topple off the building...
Yes, that firetruck is built into the building. I loved this place already.

 OOOOH, the texture.
 On our way up...
To ride the monster slide down. Note the use of duck tape.
 Looking down the slide...
Everyone did this slide. Several times. It takes you from the 4th floor to the 1st.

 Hello, shish.
 And hello, mini choochooo.
We were sure they'd love it!
 Turns out they didn't....
Did love the pitt of balls.
And metal climbing around around the pit.

I loved this guy. Have I told you octopi are my favorite mollusks? Or is this supposed to be a squid? Hmmm...
They were still climbing while I debated that animals classification. I can be such a nerd.
Keith went exploring and checked out the hall of weirdness next to us.

And we left that kiddo area to find more metal climbing chambers. See G's legs?
We also found a hamster wheel for people. It really works.
And a hall of mirrors, that's G in the bottom.
So after this we explored a cool underground area that was a little too dark for this one. So he and I went and chilled near the elephant while Dada and the braver one went into the dark.

Across from the elephant was a whale's mouth! A bowhead whale, to be exact.
And the back part of the whale was a fishtank. Where my science teacher eyes spotted some turtles mating, that's right, this blog is entertaining and national-geographic-esque.
There were fish on the floors. The whole floor of the very large area was a mosiac. I could totally start a project like this and never finish it.
And overhead we noticed that the other two rejoined us, sort of....
They made their way to us overhead.
And we set off to find more slides. This one was a conveyor belt slide. Fun. And loud.
And the next slide was up a few stairs.
And then down a chute. I kid you not, you sat on the edge and then just dropped into the hole. Terrifying for a second, then really fun. You hold on here...
...and slide in here...
And then you crawl out.
Having had enough of slides we went to eat a snack, and I saw this quote and it just fit the place. And the family.
We also did some art in their kid art area. We had the whole place to ourselves. I don't want to brag, but I think my art is the best.
Our last activity was the juggler's act.

Somebody was really into the performance.
And was picked as a volunteer. He's a little wobbly because he had to spin round and round. Bravo, G!
One round of mimosas and a sandwich here and we were on our way home. Great end to a good trip.
