Boys Birthday Trip: Day 1

Day one of the trip started really, really early because we're fools and got an 8am flight. I was a little apprehensive about the early start time, but the boys did so well all day, we were quite the proud and impressed parental unit.

What were we impressed with, you ask? Well, they pulled their new bags all the way through the parking deck.
And were happy about it.
And that in itself makes for a successful trip, no? So much easier when we're not lugging 2 extra bags and strollers and other things that little kids need, but the kids actually lug it themselves.

We got to the airport with plenty of time to spare and sat for a minute. And then someone spied something.

And he and brother and K went to check it out while I babysat the luggage. No, it's not a T Rex, its  Gigantosaurus. Seriously, that's the name.
We were also pleased to get through security very quickly.  Has anyone else noticed how hot it is in that area of the Atlanta airport? Wow. The shoes-and-jackets-off/luggage up on conveyor belt shuffle will make a mom sweat.

We enjoyed the train ride from the security area to our terminal.
And then we enjoyed looking at and pointing at and talking about the airplanes. A lot.
They were entertained so I spent a little time organizing my purse for the weekend: a backpack. While doing so I realized I've really just become the boys' walking snack keeper. Clementine, anyone?
There was more pointing at the airplanes.
And we could finally board.

And a quick and uneventful hour and a half we arrived to a very dreary St. Louis. Here we are, waiting for the train to take us into the city.
We had a few minutes to entertain ourselves...superhero poses.
No pics of the train, we were all pretty tired. But were thrilled to get to the hotel to find out that it was only 4 months old! Ahhh. Shiny and new. I liked the carpet, it had my favorite color combination. I would not want this in my own house, but it did make me happy to see it a few times a day.
I tried to think about what we did the rest of the day...and my mind is drawing a blank. Let me see...we got to St. Louis, joined the locals on the train into town, checked in, and OH. Right. Went to eat.

This restaurant won "best new restaurant" in St. Louis the year before, and it was pretty good. Based on the number of young childless hipsters in the place, it's still new and trendy. It's known for its crepes, but I can't say that I think that is the best part of the menu. The crepes are OK. Nice decor, though, and good ambiance. And I like the name.
We enjoyed the meal, but man, we were tired.
And headed back for a much needed family nap. And then swam. And did some lounging about until we were hungry again. And then realized there were no restaurants nearby....hmmm....so we set out in search of a grocery store and enjoyed a nice drizzly and silly walk.
Behind K you see the one grocery store in the whole area.

Groceries in hand, we headed back to the hotel for food, cartoons, baths and bed.

Good and relaxing start to the weekend.
