Bellymomma and I were in our early-to mid teens when we moved from that country and since then we have not quite remained as connected to the family in the other country as we were when we lived there. Nowadays its much easier with email, skype, and the other cheap and instant communication, but for the longest time it was not that easy to stay in touch. We do both have very fond memories of family get togethers and all the Tannies and Ooms. Those are aunts and uncles, you Americans.
Some of the memories remain accurate, while others were clearly skewed through with a child's perspective. Take Oom G, for example, who I thought was a loud scary man. Mom chuckled when I told her this a few years ago because in reality Oom G is a thoughtful and friendly man, he just happens to have a loud voice. But when I was little....oooh....SCARY! My memories of Tannie C have always been the same-she was warm, caring, was very careful to make her twin red-headed boys behave, especially when they were picking on the rest of the cousins, and she had a great laugh. Or so I remember. She passed away earlier this week, seemingly very quickly. In her later years she took to painting, so I thought to honor her memory today I would share some more pics of the boys and their art. It's no painting like Tannie C. would have done, but its a start.
Paper, glue, glitter and a heap of patience required. Sending good vibes to the family and wishing safe travels for Nana and Oupa to go see family.
